Glock Simuntions guns and ammo:
As some of you know I assist at the police academy teaching youngling Jedi the skills to
stay alive on street. Some of this time is spent as an instructor riding, shooting,
talking with the kids, other times I am a scenario player and USUALLY the bad one ( I have
a potty-mouth and am rather offensive to everyone < in and out of role…!>)
One of the tools we use are Sims guns. In the old days we had some older S&W wheel guns
converted to Marking Rounds, then some Sigs converted with red handles and the upper kits.
All were ok at best.
For the past few classes we have been using the Glock Blue Simunitions guns. A dedicated
training pistol for simunitions rounds. BRIGHT blue frames with slides/sights. Same
feel/weight as the duty arm of much of our forces.
Ammo: All our rounds a bright color, some pink, some orange, all VERY bright, all went off
when they were supposed to with only one known jam during my scenarios. WARNING: We had a
few boxes of older ammo on hand, these did not make a largely visible mark on theĀ bad
guys/good guys when stuck. Some left a faint trace of paint, others bounced right off with
no color. I have seen this in the past, make sure your ammo is fresh.
What I like about the Simunitions Guns:
-A genuine gun “feel” and action.
-A real shooting experience, it goes bang, brass is ejected a fast moving projectile fires
at the target.
-Immediate Action Drills, Loading and Unloading are of a real firearm.
-You KNOW if you are hit (even through armor).
What I don’t like:
-Old ammo (this is a housekeeping issue on the local level, but worth mentioning).
-Cost (but like all tools, buy the ones that work)
-Long Range accuracy of the pellets (we do close in work with these, and it’s PERFECT for
this application. It is worth mentioning as a “minus”)
Mandatory items needed for Sim’s:
-Head Protection Masks, this is NOT an option, get the ones with the cloth neck guards and
make sure your guys keep the guards on (they velcro in place for easy cleaning).
-Eye Protection or the aforementioned mask for observers (I like DIFFERENT protections for
the observers so as to make SURE the recruits do not think they have more “bad guys” than
they actually do……
Things I need to add to my kit:
-Gloves, my hands get hit alot.
-Thicker clothes, arm area, groin/legs. ( those pellets sting! )
Impressions: An awesome highly realistic training tool that is irreplacable in this
environment. I am an enthusiastic user and fan of the Simunitions weapons systems.
Sidenote: I have used the AR/M4 version of the simunitions guns and find them as reliable
and useful as the Glock. Two Thumbs up, a great tool.

Agree completely. My sheriff’s dept just did extensive simunitions with “active shooter” training using the Glock and a simunitions mod MP-5. Outstanding training; adrenalin levels ran high.
